Luana Vitra, new resident at Édouard Glissant House

Congratulations and huge welcome to Luana Vitra [Photo], new resident at Maison Édouard Glissant / Édouard Glissant House, from July 7th, 2026.

Luana Vitra (Contagem, MG, Brazil, 1995) was born and raised in the state of Minas Gerais, a region known for its monumental natural landscapes which is also profoundly marked by industrial mining activities. Therefore, she has always experienced the different possible manifestations of iron and soot. Her practice stems from processes that recognize the physical qualities and subtle contours of matter, and investigate the psycho-emotional infusion of landscapes. From compositions made with a wide range of materials, her objects and installations reconfigure universal symbols and elaborate others, especially invested in the qualities of matter, evoking poetry, discussing subjectivities and raising political questions.

Her solo exhibitions include Amulets (2025, SculptureCenter, New York, US), The Beads of My Rosary Are Artillery Bullets (2024, Kunstinstituut Melly, Rotterdam, NL), To the Mineral Spirits (2024, Museu Paranaense, BR) and Giro (2023, Inhotim Institute, BR). Her work has been presented in the 35th São Paulo Biennial (2023), the 16th Sharjah Biennial (2025) and the Thailand Biennale Phuket (2025).

Residency will take place at Maison Édouard Glissant / Édouard Glissant House (Le Diamant, Martinique), a location awarded by the French Culture Ministry with the ‘illustrious house / Maison des illustres’ label.

This artist residency is supported by Horizontes Ltda, Edouard Glissant Art Fund (EGAF) and Institut du Tout-Monde (ITM). Thank you to Horizontes Ltda, Instituto Bernardo Paz, Luana Vitra Studio, EGAF and ITM teams.
